NJ Online Casino Bonus Wagering Requirements

Trying to play through the bonus you earned for using an online casino promo code at an online casino? Or just trying to learn what a casino bonus is?

Look below for more information on the wagering requirements you have to fulfill to cash out your online casino bonus winnings.

What are bonus wagering requirements?

Bonuses offered by online casinos are subject to what is referred to as a “wagering requirement.” Usually a value between one and 30, it indicates the number of times a bonus must be played through in order to make it, along with any winnings generated from it, eligible for withdrawal.

Bonus wagering requirements are sometimes referred to as “turnover requirements” or “playthrough requirements.” These terms mean exactly the same thing.

Can you show me an example of how wagering requirements work?

Suppose you decide to take advantage of a $20 bonus at an NJ online casino, and that this bonus is subject to a 10x wagering requirement. This means that in order to withdraw your bonus funds, you’ll need to place $20 * 10 = $200 in total wagers.

You also won’t be able to withdraw any winnings generated from playing the bonus until you have fulfilled this requirement.

Do all games contribute equally towards meeting wagering requirements?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. While some casinos offer equal contribution across their entire game selection (examples include Virgin online casino and Tropicana online casino), most New Jersey providers have restrictions in place.

Typically, the only games where wagers contribute 100 percent are slots, while other games contribute between ten and 20 percent. As a general rule, the bigger the house edge on a given game and the smaller the return-to-player, the more this particular game will contribute.

Here’s an example:

Suppose you must complete a $100 wager requirement in order to withdraw a certain bonus. Let’s also suppose that you are playing at an online casino with the following stake contribution pattern:

If you were to place $50 worth of wagers while playing slots, $100 while playing roulette and $100 on video poker, your total contribution towards meeting the wagering requirement would look as follows:

– Slots: $50 contribution (100 percent of stake)
– Roulette: $20 contribution (20 percent of stake)
– Video poker: $10 contribution (10 percent of stake)

This totals $80, meaning there’s $20 more to go before you’ll be allowed to request a withdrawal.

Please note that, while rare, some games may not contribute at all towards meeting bonus wagering requirements. This is typically the case for craps.

Is there a time limit on meeting wagering requirements?

Most New Jersey casinos impose a time limit, which is typically between 15 and 30 days. Exceptions include SugarHouse online casino, PokerStars casino and Mohegan Sun / Resorts, where certain bonuses never expire.

Passing the allotted time will result in bonus funds being forfeit.

What happens if I attempt to withdraw my bonus before meeting the wagering requirements?

This will result in all bonus funds, along with winnings generating from playing them, being forfeit.

Note that forfeiture does not apply to any real money funds you may have deposited with the casino – you get to keep those regardless of what happens to your bonus.
