Bomb Cyclone Driving Temperatures Down, Online Casino Traffic Up

Posted By Jessica Welman on January 5, 2018

[toc]It’s name is Winter Storm Grayson, but most people are embracing “bomb cyclone” as the title to describe the winter weather ravaging the East Coast this week.

Grayson, bomb cyclone, Snow Miser, whatever you call it, the weather is cold in New Jersey so far this year. The New Jersey Shore had it especially bad, with up to 18 inches of snow in some places. Moreover, gusts of winds were as high as 55 miles per hour.

In other words, not great weather to plan a quick jaunt to Atlantic City for the weekend. However, many New Jersey casino enthusiasts are finding time to play, all thanks to New Jersey’s online casinos.

Sign-ups for online casinos at near-record numbers

Sources at several of the Garden State’s online casinos confirmed to PlayNJ that sign-ups for new accounts are unusually high so far this year. Generally January is a slow time for the industry, but 2018 is turning conventional knowledge on its head.

Moreover, representatives of the online casinos said this was more than just a small bump. The numbers are significantly higher than Decemeber. Additionally, they are at an all-time high for the month of January.

This is a great start for the industry after another record-setting year for the industry. Online casinos as a whole take in over $20 million each month. Last year alone, online casinos generated over a quarter billion in revenue. Since launching in 2013, the industry has posted over $700 million in earnings.

Good timing for Golden Nugget

Certainly no one enjoys being cooped up all weekend. Noentheless, the timing is fortuitous for the casino companies. Several sites are unveiling new innovations and promotions for the year.

Take, for example, market leader Golden Nugget. The site brought back its popular year-long points race for 2018. The prizes include a lease on a brand-new Bentley and $500,000 in cash, bonuses, and other prizes.

Golden Nugget also recently debuted the latest innovation on the live dealer front as well. The sites already host popular live dealer Roulette, Blackjack, and Baccarat. Now they are offering live dealer Casino Hold’em.

The table game version of the popular game Texas Hold’em is now part of the live dealer rotation, which runs daily on Golden Nugget from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. ET.

And you said land-based and online casinos can’t get along

This upside for the casino companies is yet another example of the synergy between the online and land-based casino offerings. On a weekend where the actual number of visitors in Atlantic City will certainly plummet, these companies are actually able to proclaim a victory with so many new online customers.

This is not just a win for the casinos though. Certainly customers are happy that they can take part in the fun of a casino visit without having to leave the comfort of their nice, warm homes.

While bomb cyclone is a great name, it also poses a great risk for those outside, so in this instance, online casinos are a win-win for everyone.
