The Borgata Spring Poker Open is just a few weeks away and ahead of the glittering showdown, the organizers have released the official roster of event.
For the second year in the row, the World Poker Tour will be back in New Jersey and playing host to the professional festival will be Atlantic City’s Borgata.
A Welcome Return to Atlantic City
Following a successful outing in AC last year, the WPT World Championship will once again go down in the Borgata and this year’s MTT will welcome some big name players.
When the news of the schedule was released, Daniel Negreanu was quick to tweet that he’s looking forward to returning to Atlantic City for the first time in a while.
Although he’s not yet anted up his $15,400 amd preregistered for the event, he is hoping to be at the felt on April 25 to take on the defending WPT World Champion, Kevin Stammen.
“Can’t remember how many years it’s been since I visited Atlantic City but I’m a good bet to be there for the WPT Championship in late May.”
Back in 2014, Stammen managed to overcome 238 players to secure his first championship trophy. On that day back in 2014, the Ohio native was able to beat Byron Kaverman heads-up. A dramatic showdown between the two pros was eventually brought to a conclusion after Stammen’s Ac 8s hit a pair on the turn to overcome Kaverman’s pocket fours. The pot not only gave Stammen the title but a cash haul worth $1,350,000, which is his biggest live win to date.
Low Stakes but Big Guarantees
In addition to the WPT World Championship, the Borgata Spring Poker Open will kickoff with a $1 million guaranteed event costing just $560. For that entry fee, players will not only get the chance to enter and re-enter four times (two starting flights per day), but they will be vying for a bumper prizepool.
After getting things underway in style, grinders flocking to the Borgata will be able to indulge in a slew of similarly impressive MTTs. Although these events might not be able to offer up a million dollar prizepool, there will be more than $400,000 in guaranteed side event cash on offer between April 14 and May 1.
