Borgata Poker Running Online Satellites For Winter Poker Open Series

Written By Jessica Welman on January 1, 2017

[toc]January in Atlantic City can be quite chilly. The action is always hot in the poker room at Borgata Resort & Casino, though.

The second-largest series of the year at the New Jersey casino is the Borgata Winter Poker Open (BWPO).

The BWPO series gets underway at the Borgata on Jan. 17 and continues through Feb. 3. The series begins with a $500 buy-in kickoff event with a $1 million guaranteed prize pool and culminates in a $3,500 buy-in World Poker Tour (WPT) Main Event.

Those who will start off 2017 in New Jersey can win their way into the opening and closing events of the series for as little as $5 on BorgataPoker.com.

Win a $45 satellite ticket

The first step to earning your way into the BWPO is earning a $45 buy-in satellite ticket. Super satellites for these events get underway on Jan. 1. They run through Jan. 28.

The buy-in is $5 and two $45 seats are guaranteed for each tournament. The super satellites run four times daily at the following times (in ET):

  • 2:30 p.m.
  • 5:30 p.m.
  • 8:30 p.m.
  • 10:30 p.m.

How to win your way into the opening event

Once you win a $45 seat, you can either try to win your way into the $500 opening event or the $3,500 Main Event.

The opening event satellites guarantee one seat for every 14 entries. They will run daily at 7:30 p.m. from Jan. 1 through Jan. 17.

If you win more than one seat into the event, the seat cannot be redeemed for cash. The additional seats will go directly into the live event prize pool.

If a player with more than one entry busts, they may use their additional entry for re-entry purposes. If players with extra entries do not need to re-enter, those seats will be forfeited.

How to win your way into the Main Event

Those who want to take their $45 satellite ticket and try and make it a Main Event seat can do that as well. That involves a two-step process.

There will be daily events at 8:15 p.m. from Jan. 17 through Jan. 29 with a $45 dollar buy-in. There will be one seat guaranteed in each daily to a $400 Main Event online satellite.

One in every ten entries will win a ticket.

The $400 satellites to the live Main Event will guarantee one seat for each tournament.

The tournaments will run on the following dates. Each tournament begins at 7:45 p.m.

  • Friday, Jan. 20
  • Saturday, Jan. 21
  • Sunday, Jan. 22
  • Monday, Jan. 23
  • Saturday, Jan. 28
  • Sunday, Jan. 29
