DraftKings Expands Its Reach In New Jersey With Addition Of Online Casino

expansion

Once known only for its daily fantasy sports (DFS) offerings, DraftKings Sportsbook takes another step away from its roots.

DraftKings expands its reach into the online gambling market with the introduction of its new NJ online casino platform. The company’s popular NJ sports betting app now houses DraftKings Casino.

DraftKings Casino launched with one game — blackjack. Currently, blackjack is only available on the DraftKings mobile app but is available on both Android and iOS platforms.

If DraftKings’ history in New Jersey is any indication, it won’t be long before DraftKings Casino spreads an extensive list of online casino games.

DraftKings Casino and Sportsbook set to take over NJ

For the last two years, Golden Nugget online casino has been the NJ online casino market leader — by far. It earns more than the next two highest NJ online casino revenue generators combined.

To be honest, none of the other competitors has made an earnest run at first place. However, that looks like it is about to change.

In four months, DraftKings accepted the first online sports bet, opened a retail sportsbook at Resorts, and launched the first game in its new online casino.

Much like Golden Nugget in the casino market, DraftKings is by far the dominant revenue leader in NJ sports betting. It is responsible for around 60 percent of the online sports betting revenue.

Look for DraftKings to take the momentum it has been building in sports betting into the online casino market and make a run at Golden Nugget for first place.

It knows that keeping its customers online and making it easy for them to play what they want is the key to longevity in this industry.

Given that Golden Nugget does not currently have an online sportsbook, DraftKings may have an advantage once its online casino is fully functional. DraftKings Casino, once it brings a full portfolio of games online, stands to make a real run at securing the top spot across both online gaming verticals.

NJ online casino industry likely not done growing

The NJ online casino industry welcomed Hard Rock Online Casino and Ocean Resort Casino earlier this year. Additionally, the industry posted record revenue numbers in November.

Is the industry done? Not by a long shot. First of all, there is no indication that revenue is slowing down. Then there is the question of FanDuel Sportsbook‘s status.

Where there is DraftKings, FanDuel isn’t far behind. They have walked similar paths from DFS to online gaming to sports betting.

Where DraftKings was the first sportsbook to accept an online sports wager, FanDuel Sportsbook was the first DFS giant to accept live sports wagers. Both have successfully traded on their DFS reputations to become a force in the nascent NJ online sports betting industry.

DraftKings online casino only the beginning

That begs the question: Now that DraftKings is entering the NJ online casino market, will FanDuel follow? All signs are pointing to yes.

This summer, European gaming powerhouse Paddy Power Betfair brought FanDuel into the fold with the intent of expanding its presence in the US. (Paddy Power is the operator behind Betfair NJ online casino.) The expansion is likely to include branding under FanDuel, a more well-known name in the US.

Some states are in the process of implementing gaming expansion legislation, including neighboring Pennsylvania. Additionally, more states are entertaining the idea of introducing gaming expansion laws.

It seems like the perfect time for DraftKings, and potentially FanDuel, to complete the transition from DFS to sports betting to online casino. DraftKings taking the first step is likely to secure the company as a major player in NJ.
