Another deal has been struck in the coming NJ sports betting industry.

DraftKings + Resorts

DraftKings announced on Friday that it was partnering with Resorts Atlantic City to offer sports betting in the state. A release from DraftKings says Resorts will be its “licensing partner, satisfying an expected regulatory requirement” for DraftKings.

That DraftKings was seeking such a partnership was not a surprise, as the company has been hinting at it for months. The DFS operator also started an ad blitz in the state via billboards and transportation hubs.

“We are excited to work with Resorts Hotel Casino to bring our new DraftKings sportsbook to New Jersey,” said Jason Robins, CEO of DraftKings, in a release. “As a tech savvy and a long-term growth-oriented organization, Resorts Hotel Casino aligns perfectly with our customer-focused, innovation culture.”

DraftKings claims to have more than 10 million customers, although far fewer than that are actually active users.

“We are at a pivotal moment in the development of sports betting in the U.S.,” said Morris Bailey, owner of Resorts Casino Hotel. “We are delighted to be able to have DraftKings utilize our gaming license in New Jersey. DraftKings continues to be at the forefront of sports entertainment innovation, and today’s announcement is the first step in being able to offer customers in New Jersey the most dynamic sports betting platform.”

The DraftKings sportsbook platform?

Details are short on how this relationship will actually work.

DraftKings does not yet have any way to offer sports betting that it’s publicly announced. But in the release, DraftKings said it would “launch a sports betting app along with a web-based platform.” DraftKings has only ever offered DFS contests to date.

Resorts will almost certainly have a physical sportsbook, as well. It appears likely that it will be a DraftKings-branded book, but how it would be staffed and how risk management would be handled are also unknown.
