The New York Jets (2-6) host the Buffalo Bills (5-3) Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium in an AFC East matchup of first versus worst.
The Bills (-600) are heavy favorites to win the division. New York (+50000) has a better chance of getting its own stadium than competing for a playoff spot in 2021.
And yet, for reasons only a professional therapist could explain, yours truly will be wearing my custom green-and-white gameday jersey and cheering for the lowly Jets.
With my annual sports betting bankroll now sitting at -$65.98, my performance this year is as disappointing as my favorite football team.
As a public service, I have to advise against following my bets. Or rooting for the Jets.
Nonetheless, here we go with my five $5 Jets bets for Week 10 of the NFL season.
Monday headline: Jets soar past Bills
New Jersey online sportsbooks love the Bills in this game. The spread is anywhere from 11 to 12.5 points at most online shops.
Double-digit home underdogs to a division rival feels about right for the 2021 Jets.
Buffalo looked awful last week in a stunning 9-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-6). Granted, the Jags are a better defensive team than New York and have a stronger running game. But, head coach Urban Meyer’s game plan made Buffalo QB Josh Allen look pedestrian.
On the other hand, Jets fans are mildly satisfied with what the team has shown in the last two weeks. New York is putting points on the board with a backup and a third-string quarterback.
The Jets will do more than just keep this game close. The NYJ can win outright.
I’m putting my money where my mouth is at BetMGM Sportsbook and getting +500 odds.
White-hot in New York
Mike White is getting his third start at quarterback for New York on Sunday. After being named AFC Offensive Player of the Week in his first-ever NFL start, White got injured early last week.
A healthy Mike White has been the best quarterback play Jets fans have seen since Vinny Testaverde.
Seriously. It’s been that long. And, yes, the bar is that low.
White already has a command of the offense and the trust of the guys in the locker room. That goes a long way on a young team, especially when the entire (sports betting) world is against you.
There is good reason to believe White will have a couple of touchdown passes on Sunday. DraftKings Sportsbook posted over 1.5 TDs for White at +150.
Another former Tarheel played pretty well in NYC, too
For several weeks now, I’ve written about how betting on this team is so hard because it is so unpredictable
One week the defense is stout, the next it’s a wet paper bag. The running game looks efficient one game only to be held in check the next.
Progress has been hard to see from week to week.
However, rookie running back Michael Carter has clearly improved as the season unfolds.
Carter is getting a decent amount of touches, too.
Since NFL Week 4, Carter has been on the field for more than 50% of the offensive snaps. Through eight games in 2021, Carter has 113 touches while averaging 3.8 yards per carry and 9.7 yards per reception.
If the Jets are going to win, Carter will be involved.
Carter scoring a touchdown at any time is +175 at Bet365. I had some free cash to spend there.
No such thing as a sane Jets fan
Okay, I’m doubling down on the crazy this week.
I already have bets that the Jets will win and score, at least, two touchdowns.
And, it’s probably safe to assume Buffalo’s offense will not be held to single digits two weeks in a row.
So, no reason to put any more thought into an attractive promo from BetMGM. The Jets win and both teams score 10 or more points is +525.
Thoughts and prayers for my bankroll are welcomed.
Mike White and Joe Willie are both in the NFL Hall of Fame
Since it’s pretty clear that I’ve completely lost my sanity putting together these bets every week, I might as well give the people what they want.
We laid out why Mike White is the second-coming of Joe Namath (heavy on the sarcasm). And, I’ve gone all-in on the Jets winning.
Well, let’s really own the fact that I’m a delusional Jets fan.
White throwing for 250+ passing yards and a Jets win is +550 at PointsBet Sportsbook.
