Everything You Need To Know About The 19 Legal New Jersey Online Gambling Sites

Posted By Steve Ruddock on April 18, 2016

[toc]Seven of New Jersey’s eight land-based casinos are involved in the state’s online gaming industry, which now boasts 19 separate online gaming sites and counting.

In this column I’ll take a look at the who, what, where, when, and why of New Jersey’s online gaming sites.

As a quick aside, the Trump Taj Mahal is the lone Atlantic City casino without a hand in online gambling, although that casino was previously partnered with the now-defunct Ultimate Gaming before the Taj’s bankruptcy troubles ended that relationship.

The many faces of Borgata

Borgata at a glance

Borgata is partnered with two online gaming companies, bwin.party (its main partner) and Pala Interactive.

Borgata and partypoker-branded sites utilize bwin.party’s software (although there are rumors that this partnership may be ending in the future), while Pala uses its own proprietary software for its New Jersey online casino and bingo sites, simply operating under Borgata’s license.

Online gaming sites and launch dates

In all, Borgata’s partnerships are responsible for five online gaming sites.

Two online casinos:

  • Borgatacasino.com – launched November 21, 2013
  • palacasino.com – launched November 16, 2014

Two online poker sites:

  • Borgatapoker.com – launched November 21, 2013
  • NJ.Partypoker.com – launched November 21, 2013

And one online bingo site:

  • palabingoUSA.com – launched March 22, 2016

Borgata has been the top revenue generator every single month since New Jersey’s online gaming industry launched in late November 2013. However, the casino’s reign may be in jeopardy with the launch of PokerStars (which will bolster Resorts’ monthly revenue tally) coupled with the current uncertainty of its partnership with bwin.party.

The three headed monster: Caesars/Harrah’s/Bally’s

Caesars at a glance

The partnership of Caesars and 888, along with a touch of NYX Gaming (NYX powers HarrahsCasino.com) has produced six online gaming sites.

Caesars three brick and mortar casinos, along with its two online gaming partners, have resulted in four online casinos:

  • CaesarsCasino.com – launched November 21, 2013
  • HarrahsCasino.com – launched November 21, 2013
  • 888casino.com – launched November 21, 2013
  • 888.com – launched November 21, 2013

And two online poker sites:

  • WSOP.com – launched November 21, 2013
  • 888poker.com – launched November 21, 2013

Despite their diverse offerings and excellent branding (Caesars, Harrah’s, and WSOP.com), Caesars’ online casino and online poker rooms tend to lag behind the other operators in the market.

Its online poker sites will rank third out of three operators, and the online casino arm is in danger of being passed by Resorts in the coming months, which would result in Caesars becoming the fifth out of five operators.

Tropicana, consistency personified

Tropicana at a glance

Compared to the other partnerships in the New Jersey online gambling market, Tropicana’s is pure simplicity. The casino has worked with a single online gaming partner since it launched in November of 2013, Gamesys.

The partnership has produced two online casino sites, the eponymously named TropicanaCasino.com, and VirginCasino.com, a brand owned by Gamesys launched two months after the industry’s synchronized commencement:

  • tropicanacasino.com – launched November 21, 2013
  • virgincasino.com – launched January 22, 2014

Since they launched, Tropicana’s online casino sites have been the most consistent performers in the market. The Tropicana and Virgin casinos have simply chugged along and ripped off seven straight months with revenue above $2.8 million, with 15 consecutive months with at least $2.5 million in revenue.

Golden Nugget overcomes late start

Golden Nugget at a glance

With its partner Bally Tech, Golden Nugget launched its online casino several weeks after the industry’s synchronized launch on November 21, 2013.

In November of 2014, Golden Nugget brought the wayward BetfairCasino.com under its licensing umbrella. In late 2014, the company switched platform providers, moving from Bally Tech (which was purchased by Scientific Games in November of 2014) to NYX Gaming.

Golden Nugget operates three online gaming domains, although, the first two direct customers to the same website:

  • GoldenNuggetCasino.com – launched December 16, 2013
  • nj-casino.goldennuggetcasino.com – launched December 16, 2013
  • betfaircasino.com – launched November 21, 2013

Despite its late entry, Golden Nugget has done an excellent job competing in the very crowded market, and it is routinely at or near the top when it comes to monthly New Jersey online casino revenue.

Resorts out of nowhere

Resorts at a glance

Resorts Casino was the last brick and mortar property in Atlantic City to launch online gaming sites. The company has two very capable partners, as Resorts partnered with NYX Gaming for its online casino products, as well as with PokerStars, which operates a self-branded online poker room and online casino in conjunction with Resorts Casino.

Resorts Casino currently has three domains operating under their online gaming license.

There are two online casinos powered by NYX:

And the combination online casino and online poker room powered by PokerStars:

  • PokerStarsNJ.com – launched March 16, 2016

Resorts may have been the last casino to launch its online gaming products, but that hasn’t stopped it from making serious waves in the industry. In just a year of operation, the casino is already challenging its competitors, despite giving them an 18 month head start. With PokerStars now live in New Jersey, Resorts could be challenging Borgata by the end of the year.
