[toc]Holidays typically bring out the best in promotional creativity from the NJ online casino industry, and this Valentine’s Day is proving no exception.
No less than half-a-dozen “sweet” promotions have already or will soon go live.
But there are a couple roses in the bunch that are more lush than the rest.
A lovely crossover promotion from Golden Nugget Casino
Golden Nugget Casino has just launched one of the first tie-in online casino promotions in industry history.
The promotion at a glance
From February 10 through February 12, players that deposit $20 or more using the bonus code LOVE will automatically be entered into a wagering race, where the top prize winner will walk away with a $1,000 Golden Nugget Giveaway.
The $3,000 Valentine’s Race is one part crossover leaderboard promo and one part sweepstakes drawing.
To clarify, the promotion is intimately tied to the site’s month-long Everyone’s a Winner promotion, in that the top 21 players on that promotion’s leaderboard (as of February 13) will win the lion’s share of the prizes for Valentine’s Race.
In order to earn leaderboard points for Everyone’s a Winner, players must accumulate Golden Points. This is accomplished in a variety of fashions, but primarily through playing real-money games.
Golden Points earn rates as follows:
- 5 points per every $100 wagered on slot games
- 1 point per every $100 wagered on table games, blackjack, roulette, and video poker
The opt-in bonus code for Everyone’s a Winner is WINNER. In order to be eligible for Valentine’s Race, players must opt-in using this code first.
When the clock strikes midnight on Sunday, a snapshot of the Everyone’s a Winner leaderboard will be taken, and prizes for Valentine’s Race will be gifted out as follows:
- 1st place: $1,000 Golden Nugget getaway: Players can trade this luxury filled weekend at Golden Nugget AC for an $800 online bonus
- 2nd – 10th place: $100 bonus
- 11th – 21st place: $50 bonus
Admittedly, the promotion comes off as a bit confusing at first. But in reality, it’s fairly simple: Whoever earns the most points for roughly the first half of February will walk away with the biggest prizes.
In addition to the aforementioned bonuses, Valentine’s Race will also randomly reward 20 leaderboard entrants with a $25 bonus.
The bottom line
Golden Nugget has clearly turned up the creativity to ’11’ with this offer. The only real problem is that is that low rollers are really only going to be eligible for the $25 bonus. And even then, their chances are slim.
However, for whales — of which the site appears to have many — Valentine’s Race serves as an added layer of incentive to grind up the Everyone’s a Winner leaderboard.
The low 1x wagering requirement on bonus funds serves as icing on the cake.
Choose your sweetheart at Caesars Casino
Caesars Casino has also dialed up the creativity with a new promotion (Choose Your Valentine) that allows players to pick one of two sweetheart bonuses.
The promotion at a glance
From February 10 through February 12, players that make a deposit of $50 or more using the bonus code SWEET will automatically receive $20 in bonus play.
There is an alternative option, however. Players can choose to forgo the $20 bonus by opting-in with bonus code BEMINE instead. In this instance, they’ll be entered into a drawing for a mystery bonus play prize valued between $10 and $250.
Prize matrix for the sweepstakes is as follows:
- 1 winner: $250 online bonus play
- 5 winners: $100 bonus
- 50 winners: $10 bonus
All bonuses are subject to the following wagering requirements, which must be met within seven days of reception:
- 5x on slot games
- 10x on video poker games
- 25x on all other games
This works out to a very healthy 20 percent cashback rate on slots, and 10 percent on video poker. Comparatively, the four percent return on table games is substandard, but still a positive expectation play for blackjack, (some) roulette, and baccarat players.
In our estimation, the $20 guaranteed bonus is by far the better offer, and here’s why: Only six mystery prize winners — out of what presumably could be thousands of entrants — will walk away with a bonus that exceeds $20.
The race would have been much closer if all mystery prize players won at least a $10 bonus, with a select few winning either $100 or $250.
As is, Choose Your Valentine is a clever promotion that doesn’t discriminate against low rollers. But it’s desperately in need of some fine tuning.
Still, at least it’s nice to see the Caesars Casino brain trust crafting intelligent promos.
