Sunday night PokerStars New Jersey dealt the final hands of this year’s New Jersey Championship of Online Poker (NJCOOP).
In the end, New Jersey players collected just over $1.1 million in winnings across the 18-day series. That amount rivaled last year’s total, though was well behind what players won in similar COOP series at PokerStars’ other two US sites in Pennsylvania and Michigan.
About one-third of NJCOOP events have overlays, including $100K gtd. Main Event
This year’s NJCOOP schedule featured 60 tournaments, 59 of which completed. (One $100 buy-in no-limit hold’em/pot-limit Omaha 6-max. event does not appear in the client and presumably did not run.)
Those tournaments attracted almost 10,600 total entries, with the prize pools ultimately adding up to $1,105,230.80. By comparison, that nearly matches what the 2020 NJCOOP awarded when players won about $1.12 million. Earlier this year in May, players won about $1.36 million in the New Jersey Spring Championship of Online Poker.
That total exceeded the just over $1 million in total guarantees for NJCOOP, although there were a number of overlays throughout the series. In all 18 different tournaments came up shy of their guarantees, with those overlays adding up to just over $38,000.
The $300 buy-in, two-day Main Event was one of the events that had an overlay. The tournament had a series-high $100,000 guarantee, and with 334 total entries came about 24 shy of hitting the total, thereby having a $6,480 overlay. Player “sri100k” took the NJCOOP Main Event title, earning just over $18,600 for the victory.
“sri100k” also won a NJCOOP championship trophy for that Main Event win, one of seven PokerStars NJ players who won trophies in specially designated events.
Pennsylvania, Michigan COOPs outperform NJCOOP
Of the three COOP series run by PokerStars on each of its US sites from Sept. 10-27, the New Jersey series was outdone by the ones at PokerStars’ two newer sites PokerStars PA (that launched in Nov. 2019) and PokerStars MI (that launched in Jan. 2021). All three sites are ring-fenced, meaning players on each can only compete against others in their own state.
Pennsylvania had the biggest COOP, awarding over $2.38 million in the 69-tournament PACOOP series that drew nearly 26,000 total entries.
Michigan came next with its 68-event MICOOP. There the tournaments attracted more than 18,600 entries and players won almost $1.79 million.
Here is a look at the field sizes, prize pools, and overlays for all of this year’s NJCOOP events.
