Not only does the casino offer one of the most eclectic online gaming suites to be found anywhere, but it also supplements its appeal via a swatch of lucrative promotional offers.
Noticeably absent from the casino’s otherwise stellar gaming suite (now powered by NYX) was a player rewards program – that is until now. With the recent launch of Golden Rewards Player’s Club, the Golden Nugget reinforces its commitment to keeping up with the Garden State’s big guns.
That’s being said, a few individual components of the new scheme have something to be desired.
A creative take on player rewards
The majority of NJ online casinos only reward players based on their volume of play. Golden Nugget mixes it up by adding two additional means by which gamblers can accrue loyalty points.
First up, players that make real money deposits of at least $50 dollars will earn points, with the amount dependent on the size of the deposit as follows:
- $50 – $99 deposit: 20 points
- $100+ deposit: 40 points
Players can capitalize on this opportunity daily, although points earned via this method are only credited once a week, on a Wednesday.
In addition, players that place at least one real-money bet will receive an additional 10 points. The nice part is that there are no apparent restrictions regarding the wager size, heightening the appeal to gamblers on a strict budget.
More traditionally, players can also accumulate points by wagering predetermined amounts on real-money games:
- 5 points per $100 wagered on slot games
- 1 point per $100 wagers on all other games
There is no need to opt into Golden Rewards, as once you create an account, you will be automatically enrolled in the program.
To track your points, simply click on “My Account.” From there, you can also redeem your points, although it’s worth noting that you will need to accrue at least 100 points before cashing out.
Golden Rewards analysis
The sole downside to the Golden Rewards program is that the cashback rates are pitifully low.
Each point is worth $.01, meaning that table game and video poker players will have to wager $10,000 in order to earn $1 – a .01 percent cashback rate.
Slot players have it better ($5 earned per $10,000 wagered, or .05 percent), but considering that the house holds a significantly larger edge at the slot terminals compared to other games, that’s not exactly saying much.
On the other hand, casual players who only place a few daily bets, as well as frequently depositing players, will get more bang for their buck, as on any given day, one qualifying deposit of $100+ and a single wager will earn 50 points, or $.50 in rewards.
VIP Rewards Club
As an added perk, players that earn 3,000 points will become VIP Rewards Club members. The benefits of becoming a VIP are fairly varied, and include:
- Dedicated account management.
- Special birthday/holiday gifts, presumably in the form of free play.
- Exclusive bonuses (weekly).
- Rooms, entertainment and access to events at the Golden Nugget’s brick and mortar casino in Atlantic City.
Players appear to have an unlimited (or at least extended) amount of time to earn the points necessary to join the program. This stands in stark contrast to most NJ online casinos, which require players to maintain their status monthly or quarterly.
It’s also worth noting that players who are already a 24k Chairman or Elite member at a land-based Golden Nugget casino are automatically qualified to become online VIPs. Simply enter in your 24k number under the VIP Rewards Club tab, and customer service will contact you within a day.
Golden Nugget NJ first time deposit bonus
The Golden Nugget also has a new first time deposit bonus. Players are offered a 100 percent match up to $1,000.
In terms of monetary value, the bonus ranks among NJ’s best. However the wagering requirements are a bit stiff, at least compared to say, a Resorts.
Players must play through their bonus and deposit 20x in order to unlock the bonus. Taken at face value that’s not awful, but the caveat is that rate only applies to slot players.
Table games and video poker players will be subject to a 100x play through, which in my estimation is still reasonable, but nowhere near good.
Still, at the end of the day, the combination of the Golden Rewards program and the first time deposit bonus add up to provide some measure of added value for the player, and will likely benefit both the operator and particularly gamblers, who will find themselves more able to play longer sessions.
