Showboat Atlantic City Hotel has announced that it will open new restaurants, rooms, and attractions June 28.
Showboat’s unique place in AC
Showboat is in a unique situation because of its geography. The property is sandwiched directly between the two new properties on the Boardwalk.
Showboat management likely sees the increased foot traffic and attention as an opportunity. There may be no better chance to generate new interest organically than the crowds moving between two brand new casinos.
Showboat is also a unique property because it does not operate a casino. When the hotel revived in 2016 under new ownership, the property chose to focus on the hospitality aspect of Atlantic City.
As a result, Showboat can serve as a third option for people visiting Hard Rock and/or Ocean Resort who cannot get a room or, even better, prefer the accommodations at Showboat.
Showboat will have attractions both new and renovated
Most of the eateries at Showboat have undergone facelifts. None are more notable than Atlantic City Eatery.
Atlantic City Eatery is the largest restaurant onsite with 11,300 square feet of dining space. After a renovation, it will re-emerge as Nobil on the Ocean and will serve casual food options to patrons.
Two bars, Worship Surf and 12, are also receiving updates. There will also be a new smoothie shop called Fruiggie on the property.
Glowgolf, an indoor miniature golf course, is adding 18 additional holes to the Showboat location. Visitors to Glowgolf can also play laser tag.
Showboat is also opening a 3,200-square-foot arcade. The arcade will feature pool tables, console games, and pinball games.
The hotel has also updated its fitness center. The 14,000-square-foot facility will be the largest in Atlantic City and will be open to the public.
Finally, Showboat is opening 479 new rooms. These new rooms will bring the total for the property to 1,331.
June 28 is shaping up to be a red letter day for AC
Showboat’s updates notwithstanding, this Thursday will be a momentous time for the Atlantic City casino market. Two sparkling new casinos will bring the total to nine.
This kind of day is a rarity in a town with such longstanding economic woes. Atlantic City remains under New Jersey state control after massive budget overruns.
Hopefully, June 28 will be the beginning of a run of good luck for America’s Playground. And hopefully, the new Showboat is part of that run.
