World Poker Tour Partners With partypoker NJ For $300,000 Open

Posted on June 19, 2020

The World Poker Tour (WPT) is coming to New Jersey. WPT and partypoker NJ are teaming up to bring the first-ever WPT Online Poker Open to the Garden State.

Online poker in New Jersey has seen a resurgence of late. The market has enjoyed significant growth while people were required to stay at home.

One sign of a booming market is the online poker tournament scene. The fact that WPT is coming to NJ shows how the once-struggling online poker scene has rebounded in recent months.

WPT Vice President of Global Tour Management Angelica Hael spoke about the opportunity for NJ online poker players in a news release.

“WPT and partypoker US Network are coming together to provide the New Jersey network of online players the opportunity to compete in a world-class event and take part in a familiar WPT experience.”

NJ online poker players can win their way to a live WPT event

The 13-event series runs June 21-28 and concludes with a $300,000 guaranteed Main Event.

Along with the prize money from winning the Main Event, the winner will be given a WPT trophy and a trip to Las Vegas.

The VIP experience on the Strip includes entry into the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic at Bellagio.

The Five Diamond World Poker Classic sports a hefty buy-in of $10,400. The big buy-in results in a big payday. Last year’s winner, professional poker player Alex Foxen, won $1,694,995.

The added bonus of the Las Vegas VIP package makes the $400 WPT Online Poker Open Main Event a must-play event. And you can bet the WPT will put plenty of effort into getting players to turn out to ensure a nice payday at this event as well.

WPT Online Poker Open highlights

Buy-ins for the WPT Online Poker Open range from $5 to $400, with guarantees falling between $1,000 and $300,000. The guarantees come in on the lower end of the some of the most recent guarantees of other tournament series.

Players without a bankroll can satellite into the tournament beginning on June 21 for just $5.

The tournament kicks off with a pot-limit Omaha event, but the rest of the WPT Online Poker Open consists of no-limit hold ’em events.

There are a few events with larger guarantees that stand out. They are:

  • June 24 – Event #6, $215 NLH with $20,000 guaranteed
  • June 26 – Event #9, $215 NLH with $15,000 guaranteed
  • June 27 – Event #11, $320 Black Chip Bounty NLH with $15,000 guaranteed
  • June 28 – $400 WPT Online Poker Open Main Event with $300,000 guaranteed

NJ online poker players on partypokerNJ and its NJ partners, Borgata Poker and BetMGM, can participate.

“We look forward to our first event with partypoker US Network and a great start to a long-term partnership,” said Hael.
