The WSOP Online Super Circuit barely awarded its last gold ring before WSOP.com started serving up its next New Jersey online poker tournament series.
The Spring Online Championships is already underway with a series of warmup events that will take players into the weekend.
Event No. 1, a $30,000 guaranteed no-limit hold’em event with a $30 buy-in marks the official start of the series on Sunday, April 5, and it runs through May 3.
It is not surprising that the World Series of Poker wants to capitalize on the huge success of the WSOP Online Super Circuit event. It might be surprising, however, that the Spring Online Championships event is starting so soon following its completion.
Seth Palansky, WSOP.com editor-in-chief, spoke to PlayNJ.com about the success of the WSOP Online Super Circuit and its intent with the Spring Online Championships.
“The player response was exceptional for our online super circuit and as a result, we’ve come out with our most bullish offering in WSOP.com’s history. We hope to continue to offer players a chance to win significant prizes for small investments during the Spring Online Championships.”
NJ online poker makes room for a new tournament
The Spring Online Championships has something for everyone with buy-ins ranging from $10 to $1,000. The series consists of 100 events plus 12 warmup events with a massive $4 million in guarantees.
During the month-long tournament, NJ online poker players, along with players in Nevada and Delaware will find some enticing highlights, including:
- A weekly Sunday Special event
- Special Tuesday Showdown events
- NLH and PLO high roller events
- Player appreciation tournaments
- A $300,000 guaranteed Main Event
- Rake-free, “all-in” satellites
The resurgence of online poker in New Jersey
Following the closure of Atlantic City casinos and the suspension of most sports, online poker in NJ has gained some traction.
Look no further than the WSOP Online Super Circuit for confirmation. The 18-day, 18-event tournament guaranteed $1.24 million. When all was said and done, WSOP.com awarded $3.95 million to its online poker players.
The series attracted an average of 654 entries per event. The Main Event attracted the largest player pool of the series with 763 players and 1,134 total entries.
NJ online poker hasn’t seen these numbers since last summer’s WSOP gold bracelet events.
Will it last? Well, NJ online poker rooms are counting on it.
It just so happens that PokerStars NJ announced its popular NJSCOOP that will be running alongside WSOP.com’s tournament. It is the earliest start date for the series in its five-year history.
The circumstances are certainly right for online poker to return to popularity the Garden State. But online poker players have grown tired of too many online poker tournament series in the past.
One thing is for sure, players will have plenty of choices in front of them this month, and it will be fun to watch.
