WSOP Postponed, WSOP.com Spring Online Championships Nears Midway Point

WSOP postponed until fall, Online Spring Championships reach mid-way point

It is official: The World Series of Poker is postponed until the fall.

Ty Stewart, the executive director of the World Series of Poker, announced in a press release on Tuesday that amid the coronavirus concerns, poker’s most prestigious event will be rescheduled for later this year.

“We are committed to running the World Series of Poker this year but need additional time to proceed on our traditional scale while prioritizing guest and staff well-being.”

A cancellation announcement seemed inevitable, so to hear the WSOP will be moving to the fall was welcomed news.

While NJ online poker players wait for the exact dates and more details, we did learn that the Main Event will be a part of the new fall schedule.

Online poker in New Jersey is the place to be

WSOP.com has seen tremendous success in New Jersey of late.

Last month’s Online Super Circuit Series doubled and tripled its guarantees. This month’s Online Spring Championships is experiencing similar success.

Apparently, when the sporting world goes on hiatus and people are asked to stay at home, there is a big meet up on the virtual felt.

The WSOP will look to capitalize on poker’s resurgence in the Garden State.

Along with the postponement of the WSOP, the company also announced there would be some official WSOP events on WSOP.com.

“In the interim, official WSOP competitions are expected to be played online this summer, and we will soon announce details of an expanded series of tournaments to be played on WSOP.com and through partnership with international operators, which will allow players to chase WSOP glory from their homes.”

Of course, WSOP events always draw large crowds. Online poker players look for every opportunity to play for poker’s most coveted prize, a WSOP gold bracelet.

There are currently 14 online bracelet events on the 2020 WSOP schedule. It is unclear whether these events will run as planned or if a revised online schedule will be announced.

Regardless, if the WSOP runs online events this summer with some hardware thrown in the pot, online poker players in NJ, Nevada and Delaware will surely show up.

WSOP.com Online Spring Championship approaches midway point

A 100-event tournament immediately following a wildly successful NJ online poker tournament series seemed like a big task. We have seen poker players get burned out before, but not this time.

The Online Spring Championship series has completed 49 of its 100 events, and it has met every one of its guarantees.

In fact, the NJ poker app‘s first 49 events already surpassed the entire tournament’s $4 million guarantee in prize money. Over $4.1 million in prize money was awarded through event #49. It exceeded the guarantees by $2.5 million.

There is still plenty of play left. Over the next week, there are several events likely to draw big crowds, including:

  • April 21, 6 p.m. EST: Event #52, $1,000 buy-in NLH High Roller with $50,000 guaranteed
  • April 25, 3 p.m. EST: Event #63, $30 buy-in NLH 30 for 30 with $30,000 guaranteed
  • April 25, 6 p.m. EST: Event #66, $250 buy-in NLH Saturday Special with $30,000 guaranteed
  • April 26, 2 p.m. EST: Event #70, $320 buy-in NLH Sunday Special Edition with $150,000
  • April 26, 4 p.m. EST: Event #72, $1,000 buy-in NLH High Roller with $50,000 guaranteed
