We’re taking a trip to Central America and the time of the famous Aztec civilization in this striking slot by Gamesys. Amble your way through the dense jungle to discover an ancient Aztec temple where huge rewards could lie in wait for the fortunate few.
Fortune Temple is a rather simple, yet charming 5×3 reel slot. It features 25 paylines in play and a healthy choice of coin sizes available.
You can play for as little or as much as you like; although be warned, the top prizes on this slot are only available to those players who elect to play the maximum bet on each spin.
Overview: Fortune Temple
When it comes to Aztec-themed slots, we’ve been rather spoiled by the likes of Gonzo’s Quest and Jungle Jim El Dorado in recent times. I was initially expecting something equally spectacular on the eyes, but unfortunately this time around, I was a little underwhelmed by the look of Fortune Temple.
Sure it’s adequate, the backdrop of a pyramid is a nice touch, and the symbols all fit in with the theme. But it certainly isn’t spectacular. It just looks and feels like a run-of-the-mill 5×3 reel slot.
There are 25 paylines in play and bets range from $0.25 up to $100 per spin.
Who will the Fortune Temple online slot appeal to?
Aztec- and Central America-themed slots are very popular. While Fortune Temple is not in the same league as the likes of Gonzo’s Quest or Jungle Jim El Dorado, it is a decent 5×3 reel slot. There is a good choice of stakes available and a decent selection of bonus games. Fans of these features will certainly be tempted to give the game a try.
Furthermore, the fact that higher rollers can access the bigger wins on the slot will attract them to the game, especially with a relatively low starting price for the bigger wins.
Add to that a couple of imaginative bonus games and you have all the ingredients most slot players will look for in a game. Fortune Temple just lacks the wow factor to draw them in.
Gameplay: Fortune Temple
Fortune Temple is technically a medium-variance game, but it has a wide level of variance when playing from one session to the next.
The backdrop of the slot is a golden pyramid, which is nice enough, even if the graphics are somewhat blocky, simplistic, and lacking in refinement.
A nice touch is the pillars at the top of the screen that breathe fire. The drumbeat accompaniment when the reels are spinning is understated and subtle and work well with the game.
The reels are adorned with plenty of Aztec-themed symbols, all gold and red. The low-value symbols are the playing card lows, from 10 through to ace. The variety of Aztec symbols — the sun, a vase, and two lizards — are the higher value symbols. The sun and two lizards are the highest paying high symbols with five on a payline awarding 1000 coins.
The wild symbol is a pyramid, and this can substitute for any of the low or high symbols to create a winning payline. Alternatively, you can land successive wilds across the reels to earn a big payday. Four wilds earns 1000 coins. Land five wilds on a payline and you win the base game jackpot of 10,000 coins.
The scatter symbol can be landed anywhere across the reels and pays out as a multiplier of your total bet. Three scatters earns you a 5x multiplier, four earns you 20x, and five lands you the biggest scatter payout of 100 times your total bet.
There are two other symbols on the reels, and these activate the two other bonus features in the game. The green symbol with a question mark is the Fortune or Misfortune Bonus symbol. You need three or more of these on any payline to trigger this bonus game. In this bonus, you select from six doors. Choose wisely to earn gold coins and another pick, but find the skulls and the game will end.
The other symbol is the red Gift from the Gods bonus. Again, you need three of these symbols on a payline in a row to trigger the bonus.
In this game, you are given your stake and a Red Eye of Premonition that can see a number of swirling multipliers. All you need to do is hit the stop button and see which multiplier the Red Eye of Premonition will reward you.
Special features: Fortune Temple
Red Eye of Premonition Bonus
Land the three Gift from the Gods symbols on a payline, and you can take the Red Eye of Premonition test. Select a random multiplier and receive that reward multiplied by your usual stake as a cash bonus.
Fortune or Misfortune Bonus
Land three green Fortune or Misfortune bonus symbols to unlock this pick ’em game where you select from six different doors.
Reveal a coin amount and you win the prize and can pick again. Reveal the skulls and the round ends with the amount you have already banked paid to you.
The pyramid wild symbol can replace all high- and low-value symbols in the base game as well as five wilds on a payline, offering the biggest cash prize in the base game. It cannot be used to replace any scatter or bonus symbols.
The different bonus games offer an additional, much-needed level of gameplay. Both can be highly rewarding to players too, but they can only offer smaller rewards. These mirror the kinds of payouts that players tend to receive in the base game.
Nice mix of wins
There’s a good mix of different-sized wins in the base game. Sure, many wins are smaller, but there are a good number of better value wins and a smaller number of big wins, especially when wilds are involved. This really gives the game added appeal.
Potential for big wins
That potential for big wins in the base game, or through the bonus game, or even by landing four or five scatter symbols is what really appeals on this otherwise unspectacular slot. Certainly, this is one slot that you should not judge by its graphics alone.
Fortune Temple really doesn’t celebrate its best points very well. The graphics, especially in terms of the console, are very basic. Granted, they are a bit more ornate when it comes to the symbols. The sound effects are half decent, but this is not a slot that immediately catches the eye with its visuals.
No free spins round
Arguably the biggest strike against the Fortune Temple slot is the fact that despite having two bonus rounds, it lacks a free spins round. Unfortunately, the scatter simply offers a cash payout based on the number landed. This will certainly put some people off.
Very variable gameplay
The other big issue with the slot is its volatility. Although this is a medium volatile game, it can play highly volatile at times.
You can spin many, many times and still not hit a win. Then, you’ll play and hit two very good wins within the space of a few spins and trigger a bonus game.
Bankroll management is crucial to getting the most from the slot.
Graphics and soundtrack: 5/5
The symbols on the reels are nicely done and the sound effects are OK, but the console surrounding the reels and the overall effect of the slot give it a basic and almost childish look.
Considering the kinds of slots it is up against in this particular genre, that isn’t great.
Originality and creativity: 5/5
Although unspectacular, I have to give Fortune Temple some credit for the two bonus games, big jackpot prizes available, and some excellent base game payouts. Other than that, this is a relatively unspectacular slot.
Play value: 5/5
I can’t give this slot any more than half marks here because in my time playing I have seen an entire bankroll wiped out a couple of times. And yet on other occasions, I have doubled my money within a few spins. Warning, volatile!
Jackpot potential: 4/5
The potential for base game wins of 10,000 coins, plus higher rollers able to win up to a staggering $250,000, this is a slot that really does have plenty of jackpot potential … if you can afford to play at that level.
Repeat play: 2/5
Fortune Temple certainly has its good points, but it also has a few bad ones. In the end, they probably just drag the slot down a little too far to recover. How well this slot repays you on your first session will likely determine whether you give it another go.
Total score: 21/25
It’s fair to say that Temple Fortune has a mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly. As such, it comes out bang in the middle of most slots.
