There are modern slots with exciting features and there are also retro slots that harken back to the simpler days of slot gaming.
But it’s not often you come across a slot that has all the looks, sounds and plays like a retro slot, yet has the added depth and features of a contemporary slot.
That’s the Quick Hit Platinum slot machine, which was developed by Bally. Let’s take a look now at this somewhat idiosyncratic slot.
Overview: Quick Hit Platinum
As soon as the Quick Hit Platinum slot loads up you immediately think it’s a retro slot. The game is styled with plenty of retro symbols on the reels (cherries, bells, bar symbols, 7s) and selecting your stake is simply a question of deciding how much to wager on each of the 30 paylines in play.
As you play the slot, however, you realize there’s more to it.
The Quick Hit symbols are particularly intriguing, offering a chance to win big sums in the base game, and there is also a free spins game available.
The wild symbol offers the biggest prize in the base game of 1,250 coins for five on a payline.
Who will the Quick Hit Platinum online slot appeal to?
Given that the Quick Hit Platinum online slot has such a wide scope and contains elements of both traditional slot gaming as well as more modern slots, there’s literally no slot player who would not find something to like about this game.
The jackpot size isn’t massive, unless you play for big money per spin. Big jackpot hunters may not be overly enamored, but for the majority of fans of online slots in NJ there is plenty to enjoy.
Where to play Quick Hit Platinum online in New Jersey

Here are several places to give it a go:
Gameplay: Quick Hit Platinum
This 5×3 reel, 30-payline slot has a classic style in terms of the sound effects and even down to how the reels are animated and come to a halt. There’s a certain comfort in these older-seeming games compared to the more modern slots that whizz past at breakneck speed.
You can play from a relatively small wager of $0.30 per spin, up to a maximum wager of $150, and an autoplay feature is available if you want to let the software handle spins on your behalf.
This means that the Quick Hits slot is playable by both smaller stakes slot players and those who wager considerably more per spin.
In addition to the aforementioned single symbols, there are two different bar symbols (a single bar and a bar with a ‘5’ on it), as well as three different ‘7’ symbols, a single, double, and triple ‘7’.
These special symbols can trigger winning paylines when used in conjunction (so a ‘5’ bar and a bar symbol, plus any other symbol pays 10). If you land just one type of symbol in a payline (say the triple sevens), however, then you receive a much bigger win.
The base game pays out frequently, but be warned, many of the wins will not be as much as your initial stake. As a result, your bankroll can rapidly decrease if you are playing this at stakes a little above what you can afford.
It’s better to play for smaller stakes and be able to play for a while to enjoy Quick Hit Platinum to the fullest.
The bigger wins in this game come from the two Quick Hit symbols that give the slot its name.
The Quick Hit Platinum symbol is the biggest payout. Although it pays just 2x and 25x for hitting three or four symbols across the reels, hit five and that massively increases to 5000x your stake.
The other Quick Hit symbol can be landed up to nine times across the reel, and once you hit three anywhere on the reels, you earn your stake money back as a prize. For every additional Quick Hit symbol you hit you earn multiplier bonuses of 5x, 10x, 50x, 100x, 650x, and 2000x your stake.
Land three or more of the Free Games Bonus symbol and you earn your stake back and trigger the Free Game Bonus feature.
Here, you select from a grid of 20 tiles to earn yourself a number of free spins, plus a multiplier. You can earn from five free spins and a 2x multiplier up to 20 free spins with a 3x multiplier.
Pick the Wild Bonus tile and you get one match toward all six options and an additional five free spins. During free spins, the reels change for this bonus round and you can re-trigger up to 50 free spins in the round.
Special features: Quick Hit Platinum
Quick Hit symbol
Hit nine of these symbols anywhere across the reels and you can earn 2000x your stake win. Three or more of these symbols will instigate a payout, starting at 1x your stake.
Quick Hit Platinum symbol
This is the biggest paying symbol in the game. Land all five on a payline to earn a massive 5000x your stake win.
Land three of the Free Bonus Games symbols on the reels and you trigger the free spins bonus.
Pick from a grid of 20 symbols to earn free spins and a multiplier before starting the free spins round, which can be re-triggered for up to 50 free spins at a time.
Quick Hit symbols
Both Quick Hit symbols offer a chance of the biggest prize in the game on every spin. That is always a positive, but don’t expect to hit them too often as they are very elusive.
Retro look, modern gameplay
The combination of retro-style gaming and modern features actually works extremely well on the slot.
The Quick Hit symbols are a great feature, and the free spins bonus is well-designed and offers enough variance to make it appealing.
When you eventually trigger free spins, you can win a decent amount of money, especially if you pick wisely from the grid before the free spins start.
Small base game wins
The big, big negative in this game is that the base game wins are much too small. Even landing a ‘4’ symbol win with a wild will often see you win back around half of your stake.
That’s just not enough and this hugely impacts the playability.
Lack of ‘wow’ factor
If you are a retro gamer then you will love this slot; it plays to this theme quite beautifully.
But if you are looking for some technical innovation in the game, lots of bonus features, clever animations, and graphical wizardry, you’ll be disappointed.
Difficult to hit free spins
A lack of decent base game wins would be understandable if free spins were easy to trigger, but they’re very slippery indeed.
Quick Hit Platinum Slot Review
User Review( votes)
Graphics and soundtrack: 3/5
The slot looks and sounds like a retro game, but that feel requires clever programming. The slot looks great, the symbols are crystal clear, and the animations cleverly done.
It may appear dated, but that is precisely the point.
Originality and creativity: 4/5
Initially, I wasn’t sure how combining a retro look with some more modern day features would work, but the end result is a rather pleasing combination. The slot is certainly original under those terms, and I think the Quick Hit option adds a great deal of creativity and excitement to the game.
Play value: 1/5
Unfortunately, this is the Achilles heel of the Quick Hit Platinum slot. All too often the many base game wins you hit award you just a fraction of your total bet, meaning even if you win, you are still losing money on the spin.
Jackpot potential: 5/5
With up to 5000x your stake available as a Quick Hit win and 1,250x your line bet in the base game, there’s a solid amount of money to be won if you wager mid to higher levels.
But smaller stakes players are not likely to find too much potential here for a life-changing win.
Repeat play: 5/5
The play value really hurts the Quick Hit Platinum slot as all the other elements are generally good.
The fact that it is generally a medium to higher variance game does make it somewhat off-putting, as you can incur some big losses on the slot if played at too great a stake.
Total score: 18/25
Quick Hit Platinum actually plays like a slot deserving of a greater score than this, but the issue of value really hits home as you play. Of course, land a big win and this slot will appear to be the best thing since sliced bread, but too often you can hit a run of lower paying wins and see your cash reserves drain.
That’s a shame because this is a slot that has merged two genres very successfully.
