Three New Jersey shore staples, Atlantic City, Ocean City, and the Wildwoods, were included on Islands.com’s 2026 list of the world’s longest and best boardwalks.
The Atlantic City Boardwalk was recognized as the first boardwalk on the planet and listed at 5.5 miles long. It includes attractions like arcades, sports bars, bicycle rentals, miniature golf, eateries, and casinos.
Atlantic City Broadwalk Gets the Casino-Tourism Angle
The Atlantic City Boardwalk was built in 1870 “to help keep sand outside of the hotels.” Today, it remains one of the city’s biggest tourism draws. Atlantic City Casinos are directly part of the broader boardwalk experience.
That makes the recognition more than a pure travel-list news for Atlantic City visitors. The boardwalk is still one of the main ways casino guests move between gaming, dining, and other shore entertainment.
Ocean City and Wildwoods Also Made the List
The other two New Jersey entries in the list were Ocean City Boardwalk and Wildwoods Boardwalk.
Ocean City’s boardwalk was described as 2.5 miles long and located in a dry town. The attractions include Gillian’s Wonderland Pier and Castaway Cove. It has more than 30 rides.
The Wildwoods Boardwalk was also listed at 2.5 miles, stretching from Cresse Avenue in Wildwood Crest to 16th Avenue in North Wildwood. Morey’s Surfside Pier, Morey’s Mariner’s Pier, and Morey’s Adventure Pier are the key attractions here.
The report said Islands.com’s broader list also included boardwalks and promenades in places such as Mexico, Morocco, Virginia, Norway, New York, Maryland, California, and France.
