New Jersey sportsbooks cooled down in February after starting 2024 on a white-hot, record-setting run.

Sports gamblers in NJ laid down more than $1.08 billion in legal wagers last month, according to data released Friday by the state Division of Gaming Enforcement.

Nearly 96.5% of the amount wagered came via online sportsbooks in New Jersey, based on the NJDGE reports.

$1.08 billion in handle led to $67.6 million in revenue

New Jersey sports betting generated $67.6 million in revenue last month. That figure is the sum of all 18 mobile sportsbooks as well as retail sportsbooks at Atlantic City casinos and licensed racetracks in the Garden State.

Roughly $33.9 million of the total is attributable to AC casinos and their online sportsbook partners.

Year-over-year, last month’s betting revenue was up 23.7% statewide and up 69.8% for the AC casinos and their partners.

January 2024 was the single-best month of legal sports wagering in NJ in its brief five-year history. The books took just shy of $1.72 billion worth of legal bets in January and kept more than $170.7 million.

Already close to $3 billion so far in 2024

Through the first two months of 2024, NJ sports bettors have wagered more than $2.8 billion. Those bets produced more than $238.2 million in revenue for the sportsbooks.

Online sports betting generated $8.9 million in taxes for the state last month, while land-based sportsbooks added another $178,000. Year-to-date, legal sports gambling has generated more than $31.3 million in taxes.
