A new casino app may soon be available for download in New Jersey if Resorts World receives approval from the state’s Division of Gaming Enforcement.
If all goes well, online casinos in NJ could welcome that new brand in 2024.
The mobile casino app and casino betting website, branded Resorts World Bet, will come via a partnership between Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City and Resorts World. This would be the first state for a Resorts World Bet online casino app.
Resorts World online casino, sportsbook coming to NJ
In addition to conducting a casino app online, the two partners are also seeking approval from the DGE for providing sports betting in New Jersey. There is no timeline for those approvals.
But in a statement from the DGE, Resorts World has a deadline of May 4, 2024, to pay two application fees. That seems to be only the beginning of a regulatory approval phase, which means it would be near the middle of 2024 before the new casino app becomes available in the Garden State.
“This transactional waiver will be only for the narrow scope of approving payments pursuant to [two sections] of the agreement. The parties require additional approval to effectuate any other portion of the agreement,” wrote the DGE.
Ocean banking on Resorts World to build market share
Resorts World is owned by Genting Group and has a flagship casino in Nevada called Resorts World Las Vegas. Genting, which also runs Resorts World NYC and boasts an online sportsbooks in NY, is investing in the Resorts World brand name as it broadens its gaming interests.
In New York, the Resorts WorldBet Sportsbooks has generated $112.5 million in handle and $6.6 million in revenue, ranked eighth of nine sportsbooks in the state. In New Jersey, the Ocean Casino licentiate looks to climb out of the cellar. Seven other licenseholders reign over Ocean in terms of NJ online gambling revenue.
In October, New Jersey set a record with $166.8 million in online casino gaming revenue. In a decade of legal online casino play, New Jersey has generated in excess of $7 billion in revenue. October 2023 marked just the third time the state topped $150 million in revenue from online casino gaming in a single month.
It also marked the best-ever revenue month for Ocean.
