One lucky New Jersey player hit for the largest jackpot in the history of online casinos earlier this week. The customer won a life-changing $6.5 million.
The jackpot was hit on the BetMGM Casino NJ.
PlayNJ teased the jackpot last week, as it sat at $6.2 million. After roughly a week, the prize increased another $200,000.
A player winning a prize of that magnitude is, obviously, great for the player, along with the operator and the industry as a whole, including NJ online casinos.
Online casino history is made
The online casino industry has never seen a progressive jackpot of that size ever hit. Now, a new bar has been set thanks to a player from the Garden State.
The customer won “The Big One” progressive jackpot after placing a $200 bet while playing the Fruit Blaster slot. Then, a historic moment ensued.
“BetMGM and one lucky player made iGaming history,” BetMGM CEO, Adam Greenblatt said in a press release.
“It’s been a summer filled with anticipation watching the progressive jackpot grow quickly to record levels. This win is the latest proof that BetMGM Casino is the premier destination for progressive jackpots and unforgettable experiences.”
The jackpot reached $4 million in February and kept growing in the subsequent months. A progressive jackpot slot in NJ gets larger and larger each time any player places a wager.
In addition to the money, players that win more than $500,000 on a slot are treated to a luxurious trip to any MGM Resorts International location, including Las Vegas. The player that won this latest jackpot has a future getaway planned.
“BetMGM congratulates the winner on this historic jackpot,” BetMGM VP of Gaming, Angus Nisbet, said.
“It’s these ‘you never know when’ moments that make progressive jackpots especially thrilling. In addition to the jackpot, we hope the player enjoys their trip to an MGM Resort in the near future.”
The jackpot has been reset to $1.2 million.
How this can benefit BetMGM
Awarding a player $6.5 million on the spot might not be the easiest pill to swallow for BetMGM. However, it’s likely to help in the long-run.
A win of this size keeps BetMGM in the news, and could also attract new players. At the same time, it could also create brand loyalty.
New players are going to believe they have a chance at cashing a huge jackpot on BetMGM, while current customers will stay, believing they can be the next one to make history.
BetMGM, which also owns Borgata Casino NJ, boasted two of the top four platforms in July revenue:
- FanDuel: $41.7 million
- DraftKings: $37.8 million
- BetMGM: $25.3 million
- Borgata: $18.8 million
Putting BetMGM and Borgata together, the pair exceeds FanDuel’s revenue for the month. BetMGM hopes for more even more action on either of its products after the historic news.
