The record books continue to be rewritten by online casinos in New Jersey.
According to data from the Division of Gaming Enforcement, iGaming in the Garden State generated some $186.8 million in gross revenue for the month of June.
That total stands as the fourth-best month in the near-11-year history of NJ online casinos, with the top four all happening in the past four months.
And the online gambling industry is well on its way to a record-shattering year.
Online casinos on a tear in 2024
No year has seen quite the success of online casinos in New Jersey quite like 2024.
Through the first six months this year, iGaming operators in the Garden State have generated $1.13 billion in gross revenue, including the $186.8 million in June that reflected a 25.2% year-over-year increase. The industry is on a torrid pace, over 21% better than 2023, when NJ online casinos set a state record with over $1.9 billion.
For the state, online casinos contributed just over $28 million in June tax revenue, upping the 2024 total to $169.7 million. The single-year record for tax could also be in jeopardy, as the current total is over 41% of the way toward 2023’s total of $288.5 million.
The bar has been consistently raised here of late. In May, online casinos in New Jersey posted the second-best monthly numbers in the nearly 11-year history of iGaming with over $192 million. The No. 1 spot came just two months earlier, when operators combined for a record-setting $197.2 million in March.
In the past nine months, NJ online casinos have set a monthly revenue record five times. And as mentioned, the best four months ever have come, well, in the past four months with April reporting a third-best $187.9 million.
DraftKings, FanDuel not giving up top spots
Of the 32 operators that have reported 2024 revenue, two alone account for nearly half of the entire market.
For years, DraftKings Online Casino NJ and FanDuel Online Casino NJ have battled for the top spot. Until this year, we only speculated how much of a share each platform owned.
Now, though, we know just how dominant the two rivals have been.
Six months into 2024, DraftKings ($245.2 million to date) and FanDuel ($235.9 million) stand head, shoulders, knees, and toes above the rest of the industry. Only BetMGM Online Casino NJ ($132.6 million) and Borgata Online Casino NJ ($105.8 million) join the aforementioned operators as online casinos to exceed $100 million this year.
Yet that is still the difference between second-place FanDuel and third-place BetMGM.
Consider this: There are 32 online casinos in New Jersey, which have combined for around $1.1 billion in 2024. DraftKings and FanDuel account for 42.5% of that total. Throw in the totals for BetMGM and Borgata, and those four operators have generated 63.7% of the entire NJ online gambling revenue.
