Caesars Atlantic City is marking the launch of Caesars Beach Club with a large-scale sand sculpture. Retired Atlantic City firefighter Matthew Deibert created the piece.

Deibert is a lifelong Atlantic City resident. He spent 10 years as a city lifeguard. He then had a 25-year career with the Atlantic City Fire Department and retired as a captain.

Built for Caesars Beach Club’s First Season

The sculpture stands 8.5 feet tall, stretches about 10 feet wide, and weighs roughly 20,000 pounds. Deibert said the design was inspired by Roman architecture and Caesars Atlantic City’s own look and feel.

The work was created to celebrate the beach club’s opening season at Caesars Atlantic City. Deibert also built a smaller sculpture at the new beach club for its opening.

The source report said Deibert spent more than 150 hours designing and sculpting the piece. His three sons, Ian, Matt Jr., and Liam, helped with the work. Construction began July 15 and was completed on July 22.

A Public-Facing Attraction on the Casino Property

Deibert described sand sculpting as both craftsmanship and performance art. He said the project itself became an attraction during construction.

“Throughout the project, we had more than 1,000 conversations with guests and visitors who stopped to watch the sculpture take shape,” Deibert said.

That level of visitor engagement makes the installation more than a visual centerpiece. For Caesars Atlantic City, it also served as an on-property activation tied directly to the debut of Caesars Beach Club.
