Atlantic City casinos had a down month in June, considering how fruitful May was.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement reported that properties generated $259 million in revenue last month.

The summer months of June, July, and August are when Atlantic City casinos hit their stride. So that’s why it was surprising to see that May was a better month than June.

Comparing past years in May and June

June was still a decent month for “America’s Playground” in South Jersey. Atlantic City casinos experienced a 6.1% year-over-over year increase but a month-over-month decrease of 2.4%.

With the unofficial start of summer starting on Memorial Day, June is ordinarily a much bigger month for the South Jersey casinos. The following years prove that theory, excluding the pandemic. Only once over the last several years was May greater than June:

YearMayJune
2025$265.3 million$259.0 million
2024$239.1 million$244.1 million
2023$227.3 million$241.6 million
2022$233.0 million$229.1 million
2019$222.9 million$236.0 million
2018$193.4$207.5 million

There is no reason to sound the alarm, especially since May outperformed June in 2022. However, it’s an interesting observation that doesn’t normally happen.

Industry still in good position

Despite the slight dip in June, Atlantic City casinos still remain a key part of New Jersey gambling.

New Jersey Casino Control Commission Chair Jim Plousis told PlayNJ that he continues to see a bright future for AC casinos.

“A recent industry observation outlined the many efforts and successes in town despite some
economic challenges and how significant capital investments at the casinos and a strong marketing
campaign have combined for a positive outlook going into the summer months.

“Clearly, the Atlantic City gaming industry remains not only a very powerful economic engine but also a significant contributor to New Jersey’s programs benefitting senior citizens and the disabled.”

Retail casinos still outperformed New Jersey online casinos in June. The online market produced $230.7 million in revenue last month.

Through the first half of 2025, Atlantic City casinos are slightly outpacing last year’s totals. The industry has collected $1.38 billion year-to-date in revenue, which is a 1.7% increase from this time last year.

July and August are prime times for Atlantic City casinos. Properties have the rest of this month to make up for a slightly down June.
