Caesars Entertainment and Monmouth Park Racetrack are doubling down on New Jersey’s retail sports wagering scene with a brand-new, 16,000-square-foot trackside Caesars Sportsbook and entertainment hub that opened on Thursday.

The project, announced during a ceremonial groundbreaking at the track, marks the latest evolution in a partnership that has been central to the New Jersey sports betting identity since 2018.

Big upgrades coming to Monmouth Park

The new upgraded area expansive indoor and outdoor seating, wall-to-wall high-definition televisions, a full dining program, a center bar, more than 25 self-service betting kiosks and a major new food anchor in Shake Shack.

The goal of the state-of-the-art destination is to blend live racing, sports viewing and casual entertainment into one modern space for bettors and non-bettors alike. There’s also an exclusive VIP section for customers.

Positioned at the southern end of the grandstand, the trackside sportsbook is intended to serve as a natural bridge between the racetrack atmosphere and the growing demand for upscale retail sports wagering venues.

Historic venue gets modern refresh

Monmouth Park already holds an important place in New Jersey gaming history: it accepted the state’s first legal in-person sports wager on June 14, 2018.

The existing sportsbook, originally operated by William Hill, rebranded under Caesars following the company’s acquisition of William Hill’s U.S. operations in early 2022. The facility broke ground on the area in September 2024.

Dan Shapiro, Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer at Caesars Digital, said in a statement:

“We are proud to continue investing in Monmouth Park to elevate the sports betting experience for New Jersey sports fans. The sportsbook at Monmouth Park has been a success since Gov. Murphy placed the state’s first legal sports bet in 2018 and continues to be an outstanding complement to our online businesses.

“We look forward to continuing our support for horse racing in New Jersey and bringing sports fans and racing fans to this historic racetrack.”

Dennis Drazin, Chairman and CEO of Darby Development, LLC, operator of Monmouth Park, praised the ongoing relationship between the Jersey Shore track and Caesars.

“We’re extremely excited to begin this next chapter with the upcoming opening of the new Caesars Sportsbook at Monmouth Park.

“This facility will be state-of-the-art with all the amenities that a first-class sportsbook can offer to patrons. As we start our sixth year of sports betting, we continue to see the growth and expansion we knew would eventually happen.”

What it means for for the sports wagering landscape

Retail sportsbooks across the country have increasingly shifted toward entertainment-driven designs, offering more screens, more seating and elevated food and beverage options.

Caesars and Monmouth Park’s new collaboration fits that trend, aiming to attract not only horse racing fans but also dedicated sports bettors looking for an immersive viewing and wagering environment.

New Jersey has long been one of the nation’s strongest sports wagering markets. The addition of a modernized trackside venue could help Monmouth Park strengthen its role in the state’s competitive retail landscape.
