College Football Betting

New Jersey sports gamblers have few Top 25 college football matchups, but a sufficient menu to spark Week 3 betting interest.

There are two games inside the Top 25, some others involving longtime New Jersey favorites, and the college-football dynamic that plays right into wagering.

Widespread national television coverage, sportsbook offerings on late games (like DraftKings Sportsbook boosting the Oregon StateHawaii over 69 to +200 last weekend), and betting theories on how many points the haves will trample the have-nots by creating an interesting gambling environment.

Some bettors jump all over these lopsided spreads because college teams can deliver blowouts. Last week, Oklahoma notched a 76-0 pasting of the immortal Western Carolina.

Here is a closer at some of this weekend’s significant storylines surrounding college football betting.

The latest news on Alabama and Penn State odds

Will top-ranked Alabama continue to roll when it visits 11th-ranked Florida? WynnBet has sweetened the pot here, offering a $20 bet to place Alabama at +100, down from the -625-650 range at most books. Bama at even money.

Will Penn State, now up to 10th in the rankings, take care of business against 22nd ranked Auburn at home? The Nittany Lions began the season 19th and have advanced on the strength of their defense. They have yielded just 23 points in two games.

A wave of Auburn money has put the line inside of a touchdown.

Does No. 3 Oklahoma want to run up the score again? It faces Nebraska as a lopsided favorite. Those who bet the Sooners hope they are never satisfied with the number of points they tally.

How about No. 9 Ohio State? The Buckeyes were beaten by Oregon last week, which gives them a lot of work to do to obtain BCS consideration. They play 0-2 Tulsa at home. Squash. Is this a game where the ranked team takes out its frustrations on a weak one.?

The line of + 24.5 for Tulsa and the over-under around 61 at DraftKings will depend upon how much Ohio State feels it needs to win by.

Around the NCAA top-10 circuit

Most of the teams are lopsided favorites.

Second-ranked Georgia takes on South Carolina. Lambs led to the slaughter.

No. 4 Oregon, which nipped Ohio State, faces Stony Brook.

Iowa, ranked No. 5, battles Kent State.

Sixth-ranked Clemson faces Georgia Tech

Seventh-ranked Texas A & M, which survived a 10-7 squeaker against Colorado last week, battles New Mexico.

Cincinnati, ranked 8th, is a modest favorite against host Indiana. This is the shortest favorite in the Top 10 in what should be a good betting game.

Looking at this weekend’s college football  Top-25 battles

Alabama takes on a Florida offense that ranks sixth in the nation at 582 yards per game, second only to Ole Miss. This has come against weak opposition.

Running back Anthony Richardson leads the team with a whopping 25 yards per carry average, gaining 275 yards on only 11 carries.

The last two times Alabama and Florida met in Gainesville, the winner won the national championship. In 2006, it was Florida. Alabama did in 2011.

Alabama has poured it on early, throttling 24th-ranked Miami 44-13 and toying with unheralded Mercer 48-14

Gamblers knew the game would be a blowout but dog bettors prevailed. Alabama was giving 54 points and rested its regulars after being up 31-0 at halftime.

Alabama is a machine that re-loads every year. Last season, Mac Jones was leading this team to a national title. He’s the New England Patriots quarterback now.

Bryce Young is now handling the snaps and has seven touchdowns and zero interceptions. He’s done everything asked and this will be a better test.

Alabama is a large-sized favorite, considering it faces the 11th-ranked team on the road.

Auburn has scored 60-plus points in victories over Akron and Alabama State. It has also racked up 680 rushing yards, third in the nation, and been unstoppable versus weak teams.

But now comes Penn State, which held run-happy Wisconsin to 180 ground yards in its opener, and Ball State to only 69 last week.

Auburn’s high-octane offense and Penn State’s gritty defense. Combined, it produces Penn State as a moderate favorite and the over-under at 53 at DraftKings.

Penn State is a no-nonsense, ball-control team. Its quarterback, Sean Clifford, has not thrown an interception in two games.

Charismatic Notre Dame

Outside of the Top 10, Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish reputation is literal this year. One of the darlings of New Jersey bettors has labored through two pulsating victories.

They nipped Florida State 41-38 and survived a scare against unheralded Toledo 32-29 before winning last week.

Notre Dame takes on 2-0 Purdue, which stomped Connecticut 49-0 last week.

Notre Dame gives about a touchdown and the over-under 58 will spark wagering excitement.
