New Jersey sportsbooks recorded their largest July handle on record, with $816.9 million wagered on events completed during the month.
The total was 23.6% higher than the $660.9 million reported in July 2025. Revenue from the NJ sports betting market also increased 29.7% from $74.8 million to $97 million, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE).
July’s results followed a difficult June for operators, when sportsbook revenue declined 37.7% despite a record $917.2 million in wagers.
Sportsbook hold reaches almost 12% in July
NJ sportsbooks recorded an effective hold of 11.9% in July. That was the highest effective hold of 2026 and nearly double the 6.2% recorded in June.
Handle declined 10.9% from June, while revenue increased 69.4% from $57.3 million. In June, customer winnings associated with the NBA Finals and FIFA World Cup contributed to the lower revenue total.
Online sportsbooks generated $94.7 million in July, up 25.5% from $75.4 million a year earlier. Online betting accounted for 97.6% of statewide sportsbook revenue during the month.
Retail sportsbooks added $2.3 million after collectively reporting a $680,000 loss in July 2025. Meadowlands Racetrack led retail locations with just over $1 million in revenue, followed by Borgata at $713,755.
Sports wagering generated approximately $20 million in state taxes during July, bringing the year-to-date total to $127.3 million.
‘Other’ sports category grows during World Cup
The DGE’s “other” sports category, which includes soccer, generated $309.2 million in completed-event handle during July. That represented a 60.2% increase from $193 million during the same month last year.
Revenue from the category climbed 150.1% to $37 million, while the sportsbook win percentage increased from 7.7% to 12%.
July included most of the FIFA World Cup knockout rounds and the championship match at MetLife Stadium on July 19. NJ hosted eight World Cup matches, including the final.
The DGE does not report soccer separately from the other sports included in the category, so the amount wagered specifically on World Cup matches is not available.
FanDuel leads as top five sportsbooks post double-digit growth
FanDuel Sportsbook NJ remained the leading sportsbook by revenue, generating $32.8 million in July. That was a 22% increase from $26.9 million a year earlier.
DraftKings Sportsbook NJ ranked second with $25.7 million, up 21.8%. FanDuel and DraftKings combined for nearly 62% of the state’s online sportsbook revenue.

The DGE’s report does not disclose the amount wagered through each sportsbook.
