Seastreak is exploring a high-speed passenger ferry service between New York City and Atlantic City that could give casino visitors another way to reach the resort next summer.

The proposed route would bring passengers into Farley State Marina beside Golden Nugget, with an estimated fare of $145 for the round trip between the two cities.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the service could begin carrying passengers as early as Memorial Day weekend in 2027. Seastreak owner James Barker confirmed that the company is interested in the route but said it is still assessing whether the service is feasible.

The proposal remains exploratory, with no confirmed launch date, operating schedule, or fare price.

Proposed crossing would take under three hours

Developer Tommy Carr, who is promoting the ferry connection, told the Inquirer that the journey would take about 2½ hours. An NJ.com report put the crossing at approximately two hours and 45 minutes.

NJ.com also identified the Battery, at the southern end of Manhattan, as a potential departure point for the service. Passengers would travel directly from Lower Manhattan to Atlantic City’s Marina District by water.

Both weekend and midweek service are being considered as Seastreak and local stakeholders discuss how the route might operate. Options include sailings from Friday through Sunday or from Tuesday through Thursday, although departure and return times have yet to be established.

Farley Marina would bring passengers beside Golden Nugget

The proposed arrival point would place passengers alongside Golden Nugget Atlantic City, where they could visit the casino, dine at the resort’s restaurants, or stay at its hotel. Golden Nugget manages Farley State Marina, which is a public facility on Absecon Bay.

Borgata and Harrah’s are also in the Marina District, while the city’s beachfront casino properties sit along the Boardwalk.

Barker told NJ.com that Farley Marina could accommodate the ferries with minor modifications to its existing infrastructure. The discussions have also included a possible shuttle service to carry arriving passengers to other casinos in the city.

That connection would be especially useful for visitors staying at Boardwalk hotels or attending shows there. Atlantic City already has paid jitney services covering its casino corridors, including the Marina District.

Seastreak could use its largest ferries

The Commodore and Courageous are the two vessels being considered for the Atlantic City crossing. Seastreak’s fleet specifications list a total capacity of 600 passengers and crew for each vessel. Both boats have three decks, comprising two interior levels and an outdoor deck.

Each vessel has 525 interior seats and multiple restrooms available to passengers during the crossing.

Seastreak describes its onboard facilities as including climate-controlled cabins, bars, and a selection of drinks and packaged snacks. Barker also highlighted onboard Wi-Fi when discussing the vessels with the Inquirer.

Summer boat availability remains a key hurdle

The ferry idea is being promoted by developers behind the proposed Intercoastal Motorcar & Yacht Club at Bader Field, Atlantic City’s former municipal airport. However, the suggested ferry launch would come well before that development’s completion, which Carr told the Inquirer was at least five years away.

Currently, NJ Transit’s Route 319 already connects Manhattan’s Port Authority Bus Terminal with Atlantic City.

Barker said Seastreak already runs 19 round trips between Atlantic Highlands and New York City during peak season. Adding Atlantic City would depend on whether the company can make boats available during that same busy summer period.
