The Atlantic City casino industry maintained its momentum in May as properties turned in one of their strongest performances in recent years ahead of the busy summer tourism season.
Atlantic City’s casinos generated $265.6 million in casino revenue during May, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, narrowly surpassing the $265.3 million reported in May 2025.
Through the first five months of 2026, Atlantic City casinos have produced $1.15 billion in revenue, up 3% compared to the same period last year.
Slots grow while table games slip
Slot machines generated $199.4 million during the month, up 2.4% year over year. Table game revenue moved in the opposite direction, falling 6.1% to $66.2 million. The differing results marked a reversal from April, when table games were one of the strongest drivers of growth.
The increase in slot revenue helped offset the decline in table games and kept overall results slightly ahead of last year’s pace.
The decline came just weeks after Resorts World New York launched table gaming operations, a development New Jersey will be watching closely, said Stockton University gaming analyst Brian Tyrrell.
“It’s too soon to say for certain, but the decline in table games revenue may be an indication of competition from Resorts World New York, which launched table gaming operations on April 28.”
Ocean continues to gain ground
Ocean Casino Resort posted one of the strongest performances among Atlantic City’s properties, generating $46.8 million in revenue, up 10.7% compared to May 2025. The property has generated $189.7 million in casino revenue so far in 2026, an 8.3% increase from the same point last year.
Ocean also continued narrowing the gap on Hard Rock Atlantic City. Hard Rock remained in second place with $49.9 million in casino revenue, but its May total was down 4% year over year.
Atlantic City’s results far from uniform
Borgata Atlantic City remained the market leader with $72.9 million despite a slight 0.3% year-over-year decline. Caesars Atlantic City increased 2.9% to $20.4 million and has posted one of the strongest year-to-date growth rates among the city’s major properties, with casino revenue up 12.4% through May.
Several properties finished below their May 2025 totals. Harrah’s Atlantic City revenue declined 10.1% to $17.9 million, while Tropicana’s Atlantic City fell 6.7% to $18.4 million.
Table game declines contributed to the weaker performances at several properties. Tropicana’s table game revenue fell 35.2% year over year, while Bally’s Atlantic City dropped 34.6% and Harrah’s declined 21%.
The weakness was not evenly distributed, however. Ocean, Resorts, Hard Rock, and Golden Nugget Atlantic City all posted year-over-year gains in table game revenue during May.
