It was truly a week of online gambling news in New Jersey.
PokerStars NJ kicked off its Bounty Builder Series for the first time in the US. To add a level of complexity, the company decided to run the tournament in New Jersey and Pennsylvania simultaneously.
While the chips are flying on the virtual felt, the coins are dropping from virtual slots.
New Jersey online slots made one player a multimillionaire and set the stage for the next. BetMGM currently reports a progressive jackpot of over $3 million at its NJ online slots.
As always, there were plenty of games for New Jersey sports betting fans.
As March Madness looms, an upsetting weekend saw many of the top college basketball teams fall.
The XFL heads into Week 4, and Major League Soccer kicks off this weekend.
We have those stories and more in this week’s NJ Online Gambling News.
NJ online poker holding its own
PokerStars surprised NJ online poker players when it announced it was going to run its popular global online tournament, Bounty Builder Series, in NJ and PA simultaneously.
The NJ online poker market has been struggling. PA, on the other hand, is still in its honeymoon phase.
It seemed as if the move was designed to set PA up for success while sacrificing NJ. Needless to say, it is exciting to see the NJ poker market holding its own.
Make no mistake about it, PA is crushing and NJ is surviving, but surviving is not dying.
Both NJ and PA exceeded their guarantees through the first 14 events. Both markets also produced one overlay.
In the end, PokerStars PA tallied $256,000 in prize money through those initial events. That is 38% more than what was guaranteed. PokerStars NJ also collected more than what was guaranteed, 24% more for a total of $138,000.
PA, obviously, had quite a bit more entries than NJ. Entries and Re-entries in PA equaled 5,592, 125% more than New Jersey’s 2,487.
The real test is yet to come, however, when both Pennsylvania and New Jersey online poker host their main events on Sunday.
NJ online slots making online casino gamblers happy
In the first six weeks of 2020, the Division of Gaming Enforcement reported Atlantic City casinos paid out over $10 million in NJ slot jackpots of over $50,000.
The jackpots came through both land-based and online casinos. Nearly $2.5 million of that total went to one NJ online casino player, the only million-dollar jackpot winner this year.
So far.
BetMGM NJ is poised to make someone who pulls the virtual handle at its NJ online slots very happy. It currently has a progressive online slot jackpot of over $3 million that is waiting for a winner.
This online progressive jackpot is currently the largest in the US. Players can try to claim the big jackpot at one of these BetMGM NJ slots:
- Melon Madness
- Luck of the Jackpot
- Biker Pigs
- Loot’en Khamun
- Going Nuts
On the boards at NJ sportsbooks
It used to be that once all the Super Bowl confetti had been swept up, bettors waited not so patiently for March Madness.
Bettors watching college basketball games this weekend seeking clarity may have been a bit disappointed. Half of the top 10 teams lost this weekend, including three of the top four.
With only a few weeks left until Selection Sunday, you can bet teams are back at work, drawing up a game plan that gets them a top seed.
And while bettors are still waiting for March Madness, there is plenty of sports betting in NJ to keep a bettor betting.
XFL betting seems to be keeping sports betting customers occupied.
Heading into Week 4 of the XFL, bettors and NJ sportsbooks have a better grasp on the game and can make better decisions. The fast-paced game, betting focus and rule changes are bringing a level of excitement that the AAF was missing.
Also, starting this week is Major League Soccer. The league welcomes two new teams this year, Inter Miami and Nashville SC.
Unfortunately, though, the list of teams vying for the MLS Cup 2020 is a short one:
- Los Angeles Football Club
- Atlanta United
- New York City Football Club
- Seattle Sounders
- Toronto Football Club
