Atlantic City casinos outperformed themselves in October.

In a bit of a surprise, properties produced $234.7 million in October revenue. In September, the industry reported $230.7 million, according to The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

The 2025 calendar winding down usually indicates a slower period for Atlantic City casinos. However, properties benefitted from some summer stragglers.

Surprise showing

The rise of online casinos and the effects of the pandemic had certainly put concern into the Atlantic City air. However, the vertical has seemed to stabilize.

James T. Plousis, chairman of the Casino Control Commission, spoke glowingly of Atlantic City’s success in October:

“Atlantic City’s in-person casino win achieved its highest October result in four years and marked its second-best October in 14 years.

“Through the first 10 months of the year, casino win achieved its best result since 2012. Atlantic City’s competitive gaming options and first class in-person experiences, coupled with the strength of New Jersey’s online casinos, are proving to be a winning combination for the gaming industry as well as the economy of the city, the region, and the state.”

The industry is slightly ahead of where it was last year. Jane Bokunewicz, faculty director at Stockton University School of Business, laid out the following progress:

“Year-to-date, Atlantic City’s casino operators have pulled ahead of 2024 by more than 13% in total gross gaming revenue and by more than 3% in just brick-and-mortar returns.”

iGaming outperforms retail

Now that Atlantic City is technically in the off-season, that means the online vertical is expected to out-perform retail going into the winter.

iGaming platforms set a new record in October, recording $260.3 million in revenue. It broke August’s previous record of $248.4 million.

Retail revenue is certain to dip as winter approaches. However, the industry appears to be holding its own.

As Plousis mentioned, it’s Atlantic City’s best 10 months since 2012, as many properties have reinvested themselves to be entertainment facilities rather than just gambling properties.
