Multitasking can really pay off.
Such was the case for a Mantua, New Jersey, resident who played a $2 bet on an NJ online casino slot game during a teleconference work meeting and won $287,945.
The unidentified female winner set a state record for an online casino jackpot.
Record-setting NJ jackpot ‘a monumental moment’
The online jackpot was won while the woman was playing Divine Fortune via BetRivers Online Casino NJ, which is operated by Rush Street Interactive.
She hit on the five-reel Mega Jackpot, which is the biggest winning multiplier in the progressive slot game. The popular title from gamemaker NetEnt debuted in 2016 and has produced most of the biggest winners for slots in the Garden State.
“Hitting this record-breaking jackpot is not just a triumph for us but also a monumental moment for the entire online gaming industry,” Richard Schwartz, president of Rush Street Interactive, said in a statement.
“It conclusively demonstrates that people can achieve life-changing victories in the online realm, no matter the time or place.”

Big winner could hardly keep composure during meeting
The woman told SI Live, a Staten Island online newspaper, that she nearly screamed when she realized she’d won the jackpot while in her work meeting.
“We love offering our players exciting games that provide real opportunities for significant winnings,” said Schwartz.
Divine Fortune, as a progressive slot game, offers the highest payout for potential winners in the state, and the game is available from nearly every mobile or online casino app in New Jersey.
A progressive slot game applies a portion of every unsuccessful bet to the jackpot, so that it grows as no one wins on the five-reel line. Similar to a lottery game, this makes the possible payout very large.
NJ online casinos on record-setting pace
According to the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, the previous record for an online jackpot winner from slots was $193,737 in March 2023.
The state began online casino gaming in 2013. The offerings allowed by law include online slots, blackjack, baccarat, poker and other casino-style games.
Through July, the state has seen $1.4 billion in NJ online gambling revenue this year, putting the industry on pace to shatter the revenue record set in 2022. That incredible success has led to $210.6 million in taxes, putting New Jersey on track to take in as much as $275 million in tax revenue from online casinos in 2023.
