Stoke City soccer players for a story on bet365 being found to have misleading sports betting information in New Jersey.

After conducting an audit of bet365, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement told the operator to refund $519,323.32 to 199 bettors for revising odds for an extended period of time.

The DGE sent a letter to bet365 detailing each error the NJ sports betting app made.

In total, 13 games had been impacted since 2020.

DGE claims bet365 displayed incorrect odds

In a latter, bet365 Sportsbook NJ defended its actions, claiming that it said the odds posted were “an obvious error.” However, to change odds, bet365 needs to get approval from the regulator, which it failed to do.

The DGE pointed out where the operator missed the mark in the letter, noting that bet365 “failed to comply” with state laws and “violated Division regulations by unilaterally revising odds on accepted wagers without prior Division approval.”

“The failure of bet365’s internal software coupled with its manual trading errors caused its system to be unable to ensure the accuracy of its data feeds,” the DGE wrote.

“These failures are both problematic as to bet365’s business ability to conduct online gaming and the integrity and reliability of its operational systems and, therefore, unacceptable as they resulted in misleading wagering information that was relied upon by its patrons and ultimately lead to incorrect payouts for numerous patrons.

“These violations by bet365 evidence a prolonged and unacceptable course of conduct, which is violative and contrary to the policies of the Casino Control Act, N.J.S.A. 5:12-1 et. seq. and will not be tolerated by the Division.”

13 events affected in bet365 mishap

The games the DGE found ranged from NFL games, college football, basketball, and baseball, as well as The Masters and MMA, dating all the way back to 2020.

The only New Jersey game affected came in 2020 happened between the New York Jets and New England Patriots on Dec. 30. The DGE claimed in its findings:

“bet365 accepted 21 wagers from 18 patrons, with nine patrons placing 13 winning wagers on the event. bet365 unilaterally revised the odds for these wagers after they had already been paid out to the patrons, without Division approval.”

The latest incident occurred in Nov. 2022 in another NFL game between the Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans. Bet365 paid out seven bets placed by four customers. However, it did not honor an eighth wager because of an “obvious error.” The DGE said that the operator has yet to honor the bet.

The DGE is making sure regulators are acting in good faith to customers, which is exactly what a regulator is supposed to do.
