Atlantic City Casinos. Atlantic City casino revenue has been down two straight July's. However, on the bright side, properties have recovered from the pandemic.

Atlantic City casinos shine during the summer months when many guests travel to relax on the beach, as well as play a slot machine or two. The South Jersey properties produced $272.3 million in July revenue, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement).

Atlantic City gambling revenue improved month-over-month. However, revenue did not meet last July 2023’s total.

AC casinos YoY revenue falls two straight years

Atlantic City casinos had a solid month compared to June.

Properties increased revenue 11.6% month-over-month, but decreased 6.1% year-over-year. Here is how the month of July has fared after the pandemic:

  • 2021: $276.9 million
  • 2022: $299 million
  • 2023: $290 million
  • 2024: $272.3 million

Chairman of the Casino Control Commission, James Plousis, provided his thoughts on the decline in a statement:

“July’s monthly casino win did not keep pace in comparison to recent years, partly due to a calendar with fewer weekend days. It fared better over a longer range, ranking as the fifth-best casino win for the month of July in eleven years. July’s slot machine win ranked third over the same eleven-year period.”

There are five weekends in August, compared to the four in July, which could boost totals when the New Jersey DGE announces revenue next month.

Atlantic City casinos recover from pre-pandemic totals

Despite year-over-year totals dropping in consecutive years, AC properties have been able to recover from the pandemic. Here are revenue results from July since 2017, when PlayNJ started tracking:

  • 2016: $257.9 million
  • 2017: $247.3 million
  • 2018: $272.3 million
  • 2019: $277.2 million

While earnings may not be where it was is in 2022 and 2023, at least it’s back to pre-pandemic levels, and even better considering 2016 and 2017.

Breaking down Atlantic City casino revenue

Once again, Borgata Atlantic City led all casinos in gaming win, recording nearly $76 million. However, it’s down 3.3% from last year.

Harrah’s Atlantic City had the largest year-over-year drop of 23.9%.
