Atlantic City casinos had one their strongest months in over a dozen years in August.
Properties produced an impressive $311.9 million in revenue last month, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement reported.
According to Casino Control Commission Chairman James T. Plousis, Atlantic City casinos crossed $300 million in revenue for the first time since August 2012.
Atlantic city casinos still own the summer
There had been concerns of the retail industry being overtaken by New Jersey online casinos before the summer. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the popularity of iGaming in the Garden State has been surging.
The summer of 2025, however, has shown that properties in Atlantic City are able to hold their own. They’ve enjoyed one of their most successful summers in over a decade.
Jane Bokunewicz, faculty director of LIGHT at Stockton University, put into perspective the run Atlantic City has been on, which has blown the online vertical out of the water.
“Early this year, concern was raised when internet gaming revenues exceeded brick-and-mortar.
“The peak summer season in Atlantic City seems to have reversed that trend, with June through August revenue at the slots and tables exceeding internet gaming revenue by more than $125 million.”
Many of the properties have added different food and drink options, along with entertainment, to change the landscape of Atlantic City. Properties have become more than gambling facilities.
Plousis believes Atlantic City can keep it up.
“Competitive gaming options and first-class, in-person experiences provided a memorable summer in Atlantic City, and it is well-positioned for continued momentum in the fall season.”
Milestones achieved with strong August
The Atlantic City casino industry is as strong as it’s ever been, with August being the fourth straight month the vertical has generated more revenue than online casinos.
Because of such a strong retail month, New Jersey crossed $600 million in total revenue for the third time in 2025.
Plousis said the summer months continue to be a boon for the Atlantic City casino industry.
“In the summer months of June through August, casino win exceeded $855 million – the best summer in over a decade – growing 5.5% compared to the same three-month period last year.”
